2008 Independence Cards
This year's I-cards are ready:
* Purchase the card for $10. ( If you purchased a 2007 card and never completed your first card, the 2008 card is free.)
* Your 2008 card comes with one free stamp.
* Any stamps on your current 2007 card will transfer to the 2008 card.

Here's how it works:
* Your card gets one stamp for each $10 of regularly priced merchandise you purchase.
* When you've filled a card (12 stamps), you get a $10 discount on your next purchase and a new card so you can start collecting stamps again.

In addition, I-card holders get discounts + stamps on:
* Books from a different department each month.
* Merchandise of different types (stationary, blank books, etc.) each month.
* Selected Booksense picks.
* Selected CDs and DVDs.
* Other specials as we think of them

Our I-Card holders are passionate about books, and we're grateful for their participation. Thanks for supporting independent bookselling!

June Book Group Book
The Jade Peony by Wayson Choy

Vancouver's Chinatown in the late 1930s and '40s provides the backdrop for this poignant first novel, told through the vivid reminiscences of three children of an immigrant Chinese family. The siblings grapple with their individual identities in a changing world as they strive to gain autonomy from the strictures of history, family, and poverty. The Jade Peony was selected by the Literary Review of Canada as one of the "100 Most Important Books in Canadian History" in 2005. It was also an American Library Association Notable Book of the Year in 1998, and was winner of the 1995 Trillium Award (shared with Margaret Atwood).

The Grass Roots book group will be meeting in the loft at 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 1. Everyone is welcome to join this lively bunch of passionate book readers! And remember, Grass Roots book group books are always 15% off the retail price.
We hope to see you there!

Grass Roots Online Forum
We are excited to announce the unveiling of our online community forum, GrassRootsWeb.freeforums.org! We realize that many people would like to be a part of the Grass Roots community, but time constraints and scheduling conflicts just don't allow for it.

This forum allows community members to discuss favorite books & music, current book group books, post reviews or blurbs for our shelves from the comfort of your homes, whenever you have spare time.

The goal of this website is to not only bring passionate people together, but to strengthen the bond between the community and Grass Roots while we at Grass Roots learn how better to reflect the community's needs. With your dedication and commitment, this forum will grow into its namesake, a grassroots community effort creating a web of knowledge for the greater good.

We chose this forum partially because it does not have ads. If you have any problems accessing it, please notify us at grootsweb@gmail.com.
